Music Video research

I looked on iTunes and researched into the most rated rock music videos, I found that Nickelback 'Rockstar' was at number one and considered the best rock video of all time. This video is quite basic but entertaining, it features a wide range of people each lip syncing to different parts of the song, some celebrities some average people. I think this video is very popular because of the diversity, and the fact it's very different from every other rock video featured in the top 10 music videos on iTunes. 'Rockstar' is an example of a rock video where the band does not feature in the song at all, this means that it stands out. The band are only shown for a few seconds at the end of the video, this is a prime example of where the video has perhaps become more well known than the song. When producing my video creating one that is different from stereotypical rock videos could be what makes it popular, if it stands out then it will be recognised amongst others. This particular video was released in 2007 and is still one of the most favourite rock videos of all time, and this is a point I must consider when producing my own video. In fact the top 10 videos consist mainly of older rock bands, such as U2, Queens Of The Stone Age, and Coldplay suggesting that newly formed rock bands videos are not as successful.
