Before we begin filming there are a number of tasks that need to be completed so we don't encounter any problems on the day of filming.
The first is for us to decide the actual story of the video and what we want in it. This is the concept of the video. What message do we want our audience to understand after watching the video and how we are going to go about doing this. Once this is decided we are going to create the storyboard, putting our ideas onto paper to see if it makes full sense before we begin filming. The next task is to visit the locations at which we wish to film, this is to ensure that we are able to film there and to be aware of any problems that could disrupt our filming e.g the lighting, people, cars - anything that could potentially ruin the video. We also will have to carry out a risk assessment at each location so we know that where we film is completely safe, if anyone is at risk of being injured during filming we need to know how we will stop this from happening. We will then get together our cast, the main character and any other background characters. As we are not planning on a performance video the main character will not need to learn the lyrics to the song, our video will be story telling. From the decision of who will feature in our video we will need to work out costumes, we know that the characters will be wearing balaclavas purely because of the name of the song but we also need to decide upon other clothing. Any props, instruments or equipment will need to be sorted before the day of filming so that everything is ready. We will continuously be contingency planning, this is so that if any problem arises we are able to overcome it immediately. For example, if our main actor is to drop out at the last minute we have a back up actor who will be able to replace the other at short notice, or if its raining on the day we film we will be able to come up with a solution straight away.
