Risk assessment & Location Recce..

The risk assessment is important because it allows the day of filming to run as smoothly as possible, we have listed all the possible risks that may occur and found a way to overcome them. Without a risk assessment we wouldn't know if certain locations are acceptable to film at, if they posed too many risks that were impossible to overcome then its inevitable that filming wouldn't be able to happen there, however the locations at which we are filming out do suggest possible risks but risks that are easily avoided. If we encounter any of these risks we know separately and as a group how to approach them to keep ourselves and members of the public safe. These are the possible risks:

Risk- Icy floors poses the risk of someone sliding over.
Overcome by… Walking slowly and wearing shoes with grip.

Risk- Throwing balaclava out of window poses a risk because someone could fall out of the window.
Overcome by... Ensuring people are careful around the window and only open it to a certain amount.

Risk- Injuries in the drag from the car, if someone hits the pavement too hard.
Overcome by… Allowing them to know there could be a slight possibility of injury and emphasis the need to be careful and not too aggressive.

Risk- Girl hurting herself from the struggle with the balaclava in the flat.
Overcome by… Having no sharp objects such as edges of tables or loose objects such as shoes that she could trip over and cause injury.

Risk- The drive, a possible collision with another car.
Overcome by… Ensure that the actor is driving carefully, that they hold a valid driving license and do not speed away when driving.

Risk- Obstructing other cars when boy (1) crawls to the car.
Overcome by… Make sure that the boy crawls on the pavement away from oncoming traffic so he does not pose a risk to them or himself.

Risk- Running down the stairs too fast when the boy escapes from the flat, causing a fall.
Overcome by... Emphasising the need to walk slow, again wearing shoes that grip so that it reduces the chance of slipping.

Risk- Breaking the door or causing injury when the door is smashed down.
Overcome by... Keeping the door on latch so that it does not come off the hinges and so that no one is hurt on the splintered wood if it does break and ensure the are as careful as possible.

Location recce
After visiting our locations we had to determine any possible problems that could damage our day of filming, we conducted a location recce so we knew the suitability of each location. When we film out on the street it will be dark and so the lighting will not pose any kind of problem as we want it dark to suit the atmosphere of the song. Inside the flat the lighting again suits the mood of our video, when the robbery happens the lights inside the flat will be off and outside the door the lights will be on, the lighting is no problem to our filming. The only problem that we may encounter is the fact that there will be people walking the streets and in the flat at the point at which we film, we initially overcame this by filming at a later time and filming in a discreet street. Even so, if the area is busy with members of the public we will just have to film around them or have them in the video, it will make the video look more life like and unplanned which is the look we are hoping for so this isn't a major issue for us. Filming down a discreet street means that there will be little traffic and sounds of cars to distract the actors, the first half a minute of the video will be foley sounds so again we planned to avoid any issues. We should be able to film on tuesday 11th with no issues.
