Findings from Focus Group..

I did ask many of the same questions from the questionnaire in the focus group because I wanted to understand their opinion in more depth than just a one sentence answer from the questionnaire. I learned from the 4 participants that fell into our target audience that the reason they listen to indie music is because of how upbeat it is, the fact that it is catchy without being heavy metal is what attracted them to it. The use of instruments also make indie music more uplifting, I also learnt that the audience for this genre can stretch across generations because of the amount of  Indie Rock bands in the public eye today everyone can find a band to suit them because there's so many.

The focus group taught me that a video to a track is very important because the audience likes to know who their listening to, and that it is easy to recognise an indie rock video because of the suit they all seem to follow. This meant that the production of my video would either have to follow the rest or be unique, but one participant said that stereotypical rock videos are becoming boring because their all the same. Putting imagination and creativity into the video will make it different, I then thought I could create an idea where the video involves the band but not performing on stage to an audience because that is what my participants didn't really want to see again. I will apply this knowledge to the production of my music video. An important question that I have asked during the questionnaire, interview and the focus group was in relation to the image of the band and what they would expect indie rock artists to wear. Again, I was told the same sort of answer and found that the scruffy, causal look is what the audience wants to see. The 'boy band' look would not suit well in an Indie rock video because it's not the image and style suited to their music. The participants believed that the video of a song should be in relation to the age of the band and their genre of music, which I also agree with. When choosing the costumes for my band, it is vital that I consider the fact that the band is quite young and they have to appeal to the target audience. I am confident that dressing the actors in the video in causal clothing will suit the expectations of the target audience because despite it being the same as every other indie rock band, it is what the audience likes and wants to see.

lastly, the production of my video will not have to be in relation to the lyrics as this is the majority opinion I have found during the questionnaires, interview and focus group. The participants thought that the video should portray the message, if there is one, successfully however that is. Whether that be in a satirical or serious manner, but the video does not have to follow the story behind the lyrics. The combination of the questionnaires, focus groups and interviews have each taught me how to appeal to my target audience successfully.
