I began researching into Indie rock music videos, I wanted to find some inspiration for what I would like in my own video. I found a common element to most Indie music videos, they mainly revolved around the performance of the band either on stage to an audience or in the recording studio. I thought this was quite a stereotypical way to portray the band, but successful at the same time because your able to see the band playing together which the audience must like. I looked at music videos made by The Black Keys and their videos were either performance or story telling, they did not however stick to the same idea in every video. The video above 'Gold on the ceiling' shows the performance of the band, I noticed that the band have created a casual image, dressing in average clothing nothing too stereotypical of a rock band. I think many rock bands have a cool, rugged look to them, not dressing up for the camera as many mainstream artists do, they don't look perfect which is crucial to their image. On the other hand, the video below 'Tighten Up' does include the band but not in the same way. It mainly involves the singing of the child and the telling of a story, which is quite interesting because It shows the imagination behind the song and the creativity of the video. Just by focusing on The Black Keys I have found that when I produce a video I prefer the storytelling idea because it is not the same as every other band. I will have to ensure I follow the suit of every other rock band in the dress sense, they do not seem to dress up they stick to an easy, casual look. I found that most rock videos are usually upbeat, rowdy and eye catching, they stick to the message behind the song and attempt to present it in the video which in some cases works really well, like the song 'Tighten Up'.
