Arctic
Monkeys, Balaclava.
The
video begins with about 30 seconds of footage where there is no music; this
will show a balaclava falling from a window of a flat, floating down until it
lands on the ground. The main actor (boy 1) will walk round the corner of the
flat, hands in pockets, and retrieve the balaclava and he will put it into his
pocket. He walks into the flat, and the video skips to him walking up the last
flight of stairs and he puts the balaclava on. (Music starts) As he does this he
turns evil, as though the balaclava has possessed him, forcing him to do bad
things. He then smashes into a flat and steals their possessions, things such
as iPods and phones, he puts them into his bag. He struggles to get the
balaclava off; he finally peels it off and throws it onto the kitchen floor. He
sprints down the stairs pushing past a woman; she is the owner of the flat he
has just robbed. She walks into her flat and notices the mess and that she has
just been robbed; the balaclava is gleaming on the floor, the camera watches as
she slowly approaches the balaclava and she picks it up and slides it on. Just
like the man before, it captures her and she struggles to get it off. It’s
throwing her around the room as if its trying to control her, she holds onto
the gate of her flat screaming for help, she rips it off her head and launches
it out of her door; she goes back into her flat and cries. The balaclava sits
on the floor outside, loads of people walk past it in fast motion, until
eventually it is picked up by a little girl who carries it outside the flat and
shows it to her mum, who again throws it on the floor. In the distance you can
see the original bearer of the balaclava watching on, someone else picks up the
balaclava. Boy (2) puts it on and immediately turns evil, he spots a boy
sitting in his car, he walks up to him and drags him onto the floor jumps into
the car and turns the speakers up loud, and the song will be the same as the
track of the video but louder. He speeds off down the road, there will be a few
shots of the area in silence where there is no mayhem, around the corner we
will be able to see the car parked with the doors open, the keys still in and
the engine running. The balaclava is perched upon the seat, again gleaming
attracting someone to pick it up. Boy 1 crawls up to the car, looking ill, pale
with dark eyes he crawls into the car and he pulls the balaclava out, in relief
he slumps against the car holding tight to the balaclava. He sings to the
camera ‘sorry sweetheart I’d much rather, keep on the balaclava. He puts the
balaclava back on and the camera watches as he disappears into the distance
being chased by the others who wore the balaclava.
