Further Research..

I had formed an idea of what I wanted the finished project to look like, it was difficult trying to explain it to the rest of the group because they hadn't seen the music videos I was comparing it to, or listened to any of the artist I had. We had formed an idea and we had considered camera shots but what we were not doing was thinking ahead about editing, considering editing now would help us in the future because we would be able to record the exact footage we needed to work with during editing such as the short sharp shots we wanted in the video. I began researching styles of editing in different music videos, mainly indie rock videos however considering other genres also because we didn't want to limit ourselves too much. I started by looking at MTV's Video Music Award for Best Editing and found that the winners of the award were from completely diverse genres, so I viewed many music videos to find editing styles that suited our genre, storyline and ones that I particularly liked and could share amongst the group.

I watched every rock video on the list and particularly liked the Green Day video 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' because the editing has allowed the video to achieve the aged look, as though it was recorded on an old camera. This is a technique which I think should feature in our video because it suits the genre and will have the ability to work well with how the video is being filmed at night, so scenes will be dark. It will follow the storyline of the video because it will also contribute to the rugged, teenage look which we are attempting to achieve. When it comes to editing the footage I will definitely consider using the aged look seen in 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams'.
