Research..

Our first research task was to design and dispatch the questionnaire to random participants according to the age group which we had been assigned to. My first participant proved to be very useful, he was aged 31 and so fell perfectly into my age group. He immediately informed me of what was wrong with the questionnaire and how to fix it. The first question that he found difficult to answer was 'How often do you listen to Indie music on a scale of 1-5?' (1 being always 5 being never) He stated that he listened to music a lot, if he had to chose what number he would tick it would be 1, however he said no one can listen to music always so this question does not make sense. He then thought an alternate could be to give a time limit, e.g less than an hour a day, 2 hours a day this would make it much more easier for the participant to answer. And so we found this feedback extremely useful. Another question we included was 'which of the following music videos do you like the most', this consisted of tracks from the UK top 40, this particular participant again found it difficult to answer this question because he had not seen any of them and could not pass judgement or contribute anything relatively useful. We learnt from this that if we were going ask different age groups we had to try and include videos that we believed they would have seen. Lastly, the question 'in a music video, what would you like to see the artist wearing?' also seemed to be a problem because this person answered with 'I don't care', because of this we thought we either had to stick with the question in the hope of gaining better responses or remove it altogether. Therefore we thought that before we asked another person to fill out the questionnaire we must first change the mistakes that we had already found. As a group we then decided from the questionnaire responses that we had found, over 31's would not be useful because they didn't know what artists or bands we were referring to and so their response would not help us in our research task because most of them said they do not watch or care about music videos. We decided to drop this age range category and focus completely on the ages between 18-25 because this was now what we considered our target audience.

Below is our finalised questionnaire, we took the responses we had received into consideration and made the final questionnaire. Including artists that everyone could refer to and despite receiving negative feedback on the Clothing question we decided to keep it as we thought we might receive some useful responses, so it wasn't worth removing it altogether. The feedback from the first questionnaire was very useful, without which we would not have been able to produce our overall questionnaire which seems to ask suitable questions that could provide useful answers.
